Vision
A letter from Mandy
PIVOT DIRECTOR
When dancers begin thinking about becoming professionals, most of the focus is on training: technique, choreography, performance, and auditions. And that training matters. Dancers today are incredibly prepared artistically.
What’s talked about far less is how to actually turn that passion into a sustainable, professional career. How to navigate the transition from student to working artist, and how the industry functions once you step into it. Yes, part of that journey involves understanding the business (agents, contracts, auditions), but more importantly, it’s about learning how to build a life in dance.
That’s why we created PIVOT, to give dancers both a clearer view of the professional landscape and the opportunity to explore the different directions a career in dance can take.
Through four pathways — Concert, Commercial, Stage, and Dance Team — dancers can begin experiencing the environments that shape different parts of the industry, whether that’s dancing on a concert tour, performing in the ensemble of a Broadway show, joining a contemporary company, or pursuing a college degree while competing on a team.
Beyond the intensive experience, PIVOT continues at Press Play Nationals, where dancers from all pathways come together for a collaborative networking experience, supported by expanded sessions, seminars and industry insight. This is paired with ongoing online mentorship, creating continued access to guidance, connection and support as dancers begin navigating their own professional journeys.
My hope is that dancers leave PIVOT not just inspired, but with a clearer understanding of the many ways a professional life in dance can unfold. It’s a chance for emerging professional dancers to ask questions, learn directly from working artists, and gain insight into everything from auditions and representation to contracts and the day-to-day realities of building a career in this industry.
Join us as we build something special together.
